Letter to the Editor: Greg Taggart

I’d like to take a moment to explain my entrance into the county commissioner’s race as an Independent. In past elections I’ve voted for Republicans, Democrats, as well as Independents. I think quality candidates cross all party lines and consideration should be made on the individual’s merit.

I’ve always followed and have been interested in public service. Until my recent retirement I didn’t think I’d be able to give this important work the attention it deserves. Now, in retirement, I can approach this new adventure with the same zeal and enthusiasm I do with my volunteer work at the High School and my Church.

After the Primary election there seemed to be more bitterness and consternation than normal surrounding certain candidates. I would hope I can bring more light than heat into the public arena. There is important work to be done. My family has lived in Brown County since the 1850s. I have no desire or inclination to fundamentally change our beautiful County. I would, however, like to improve on our wonderful assets. You can’t advance our tourism/recreation business model without addressing things like sewer, safety, schools, connectivity and housing. By promoting compatible economic development we can go a long way in solving issues in these critical areas.

I don’t intend to cloak myself in anonymity on any of the agenda centered websites currently on line. I would, however, be delighted to answer any questions you might have. My email is [email protected].

I look forward to serving you as county commissioner.
