Humane Society Barn Sale this weekend

One man’s junk is another man’s treasure, especially when it benefits the local dogs and cats of Brown County.

The Brown County Humane Society’s annual barn sale is back for another year of profits and local support. The sale is scheduled to take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at the Away A Day RV Campground (5515 State Road 46).

New and gently used donations were taken for the sale Friday through Sunday including furniture, rugs, antiques, collectibles, toys, jewelry, housewares, kitchen appliances, sports gear, bikes, tools, arts and crafts, artwork and house decorations.

Humane Society Community Relations Manager Megan Gushwa told the Democrat that it is hard to see all of the items they have in one day, so they recommend people to come to the sale each day to see what new treasures have been uncovered.

“Last year, the Barn Sale raised over $64,000 in just three days of the sale,” said Gushwa. “This is our most labor-intensive fundraiser of the year, but also our most profitable. We could not pull it off without the amazing support of our community through donations, shopping and volunteering. Every person who contributes to this event is helping to save the life of a shelter pet.”

The Humane Society is still in search of volunteers to help with the barn sale from today through Sunday.

“Every single item that is donated is individually priced, that is thousands of pieces,” said Gushwa. “In addition to helping price, we need heavy lifters and movers, people who enjoy creating nice displays for shoppers and those who like to organize donated items.”

Interested volunteers can stop by the Away A Day RV Campground during the barn sale to be assigned tasks. For more information about volunteering, people can contact Gushwa by phone at (317) 946-8235 or email at [email protected].
