M. John Whitehorn, 77, of Brown County, passed away at 9:16 p.m. July 28, 2024, at his home.

John was born in Columbus, Indiana on June 12, 1947, the son of Lawrence Delmas and Ruth Marie Kyle Whitehorn. He married Betty Marie Sisson on May 31, 1970. She survives.

John was a US Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam War and was employed by South Central Company for 41 years. After retirement, John enjoyed traveling south for the winter months. He was a member of the Hoosier Hills Rifle, Pistol Club and was also a 4-H shooting instructor. He enjoyed teaching young boys and girls the responsibility and safety of firearms. John had a great interest in Civil War History. Anyone who came by the house was sure to be quizzed by this History buff.

The funeral was at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor David Boswell officiating. Military Rites were performed by the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Cemetery in Morgantown. Calling was from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Parkinson’s research through the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, a son, Chelsea E. (Shannon) Whitehorn, of Morgantown; daughters, Abigail E. Whitehorn, of Washington, IN, and Anita M. Whitehorn of Brown County; grandchildren, Madison Josephine and Olivia Rose Whitehorn; and a nephew, Tim Whitehorn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin D. Whitehorn.

Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
