“The volunteer event committee serving under the leadership of Nashville Metropolitan Police Chief Heather Burris in upport of Nashville National Night Out would like to sincerely thank our Brown County neighbors for a wonderful celebration on Aug. 6.

The Village Green was crowded with our public safety crews, families from across the county, business and community service booths, food vendors, games and volunteers. The highlight occurred at the end when fire volunteers took the edge off the heat and humidity with fire hoses spraying kids of all ages and sizes to cool off and enjoy a bit of fun the night before the start of school.

National Night Out’s purpose of showing appreciation for the dedication of our law enforcement, fire prevention and emergency medical teams in a family friendly, fun environment was achieved.

That was only possible through hard work from the event committee over the last several months, but also volunteers from Brown County Music Center and the Girl Scouts, a flag ceremony led by the Boy Scouts and an invocation by Pastor Roy Ice.

We are pleased to offer this event free to the community, but the only way we can do that is through the generosity of our sponsors. That includes financial support from Wanda Jones Law, Our Brown County, 7P Solutions, Brown County Inn, Brown County Schools, Brown County Habitat for Humanity, St. Agnes Catholic Church and John and Karen Elliott.

That generosity also includes delicious food and drinks donated by Nashville United Methodist Church, Nashville Chop House, Nashville House, Brozini’s, BP, IGA, McDonalds, Fudge Kitchen, Cedar Creek and Sugar Creek BBQ.

In addition, the Brown County Music Center donated the dunk tank, the Boy Scouts donated the bounce house, Michele Wedel donated her photography skills, Ross Benson donated the sound system and Seward Party Rentals donated the tents, tables and chairs.

We can’t forget Sandie Jones, Phyllis Carr and the Nashville Town Council who allowed us to close the streets and have this celebration here at the Village Green. A special thank you goes to Street Superintendent Jamie Sichting who set up barricades and cones, cleaned up a lot of extra trash and made sure we had electricity for booths and the sound system.

Please join me in thanking everyone involved in the event and please find an opportunity to thank our first responders as often as you can.
