Reader Takes Issue With Letter

Editor:

I feel compelled to take issue with Clara Stanley’s “Strong Opinions” Letter to the Editor in the August 28 Democrat.

Her comment that the Brown County Community Foundation (BCCF) is “already fat and rich in their financial resources” so it doesn’t need extra money from the Brown County Music Center indicates Ms. Stanley’s misunderstanding of what the BCCF does.

Since the BCCF exists to serve the community by providing grants and educational opportunities to achieve positive county-wide outcomes, it is not an organization that simply accumulates financial resources for its own benefit. In 2024, BCCF distributed more than $300,000 (including the allowed distribution from the Music Center) in grants to non-profits, Brown County Schools and first responders, and is currently offering a $25,000 Impact Grant to a qualified applicant.

Regarding priorities, I can’t think of another organization that exists to aid and support the wide-ranging needs of our county.
