Shirley Jean (Neat) Hedger, age 74 of Brown County, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday afternoon, September 12, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born in Martinsville on August 6, 1950, to her parents, the late Robert E. and Sara June (Arnold) Neat. Shirley was a 1968 graduate of Brown County High School and went on to attend Indiana Central in Indianapolis. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Jackie D. Hedger, whom she married on November 21, 1973 in Morgantown. Shirley is also survived by her children, Andrew (Staci) Hedger &Paul Hedger both of Morgantown and Joy (Aaron) Jackson of Nashville; grandchild, Noah Guinn of Texas, Braden Hedger of Morgantown, Zoe &Ayden Jackson both of Nashville, Callie, Piper &Bryson Hedger all of Morgantown.

Besides her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Stephanie Hedger; and a brother, William David Neat.

She was a loyal 59-year member of the Morgantown Baptist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday School and assisted with Bible School. Shirley was also a member of the Rainbow Girls. She was well known for her cake decorating and made numerous wedding cakes locally. Shirley enjoyed going to church, traveling with her family and attending her grandchildren’s academic and athletic events. She loved spending time with her family, especially her extended family of 30 “youngins” that would often come for lunch after church on Sundays.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 17th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Morgantown Baptist Church, 109 W. Elm Street in Morgantown. The Revs Lee Snider and Jim Weld will conduct a funeral service on Wednesday, September 18th at 11 a.m. at the church with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery in Brown County. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation &Personalization Center in Morgantown.
