Antique Machinery & Old Settlers

The Brown County Antique Machinery Association featuring Old Settlers will be having their fall show on Friday, Sept. 27 at the Fairgrounds. Breakfast and lunch will be served along with craft vendors, swap meet vendors, antique tractors, hit & miss engines, a steam engine operated sawmill, hay press, corn grinding & shelling, and rail splitting. The club will have a tractor drive to the nursing home on Friday at 2 p.m. Straight Line Bluegrass band will be preforming Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Sept. 28 there will be a kids straw search and kids pedal pull at 10 a.m. The Old Settlers Pioneer program and awards will be at 1 p.m. and there will be an auction at 2 p.m. with a playhouse, split rails, porch swing, lumber, and various other items. Please come own and enjoy our show.

Brown County Democrat hosting first Nashville ghost walk

Reporter Dakota Bruton will be leading the first-ever Brown County Haunted History Tour through downtown Nashville on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m., sharing spooky stories and historical tales of Brown County.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Democrat’s office, 153 E. Main St. and are $13 per ticket 0r $20 for two so you can bring a friend! Space is limited and tickets are selling fast, so get yours before it’s too late… if you dare.

Make sure to wear your comfortable shoes and bring your rain jackets, the walk will last around an hour, rain or shine.

26th annual Studio Tour

The 26th annual Brown County Studio Tour starts on Oct. 2 and runs through Oct. 31. This is a self-guided tour of working artists’ studios throughout Brown County. Enjoy Brown County’s scenic back roads as you travel to different locations where you will have the unique opportunity to meet the artists, tour their studios and purchase directly from them. All studios are open Wednesday through Saturday, with some also open on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information: bcstudiotour.com

52nd Annual FallFare

Nashville United Methodist Church hosts the 52nd FallFare on Oct. 5, at the Village Green in Nashville, Indiana.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, Nashville United Methodist Church will host its 52nd FallFare on the Village Green at the corner of Main and Jefferson Street in downtown Nashville, Indiana. The event is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will proceed rain or shine.

This year’s event features new booths and old favorites, each selling items that were baked, knitted, painted, sanded, picked, collected, and donated by church members. Scout Troop 190, Cub Scout Pack 190, Girl Scouts, and Sunshine Friends sell breakfast, lunch, popcorn, and homemade treats to raise funds to support youth activities at the church.

Hardin Family Memorial Open Mic Hymn Sing

Join us for the first annual Hardin family memorial open mic sing Green Valley Church, 385 Green Valley Church Road, Nashville on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m.

We will have food beforehand from 5 p.m. until sing starts. Donations/love offering will be accepted and all proceeds will go to the Green Valley Church in the Hardin family’s honor.

Brown County Rising: A film series about community wellness

Brown County Rising film series will continue at 2 p.m. on Nov. 24 with the viewing of Wrestling Ghosts at Brown County Playhouse.

Hickory Ridge Community Center

September is the doorway to fall and the chance for cooler temperatures! Here what is on the calendar for the Community Center:

Sept. 28, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Join us at our yearly Founders’ Day Celebration. BCPL Craft Club: Paper Bead Pens, Wednesday, Sept. 25 · 6 p.m., Create your own abstract designs on paper then roll them into large beads to create a custom ink pen body. Those with respiratory issues should be aware that we will be using products like nail polish and rubbing alcohol in our projects.

Digital Armor: Protecting Your Online Presence, Thursday, Oct. 10 · 6 p.m., October is National Cybersecurity Month. Commemorate the month by learning how to keep yourself safe online. Expert Ross Moore will cover the basics of cybersecurity, as well as VPNs (virtual private networks), what they are and how to use them. Registration requested.

Freedom Over Me Book Discussion, Wednesday, Oct. 2 · 5 p.m., Kids and teens can join Miss Samantha for a discussion of this year’s One State / One Story youth selection. Freedom Over Me by Ashley Bryant is the story of eleven slaves, their lives and dreams brought to life. Snacks will be provided. Content Warning: This book features enslaved people and discusses slavery and the sale of people. Caregivers are encouraged to determine if this book is a good fit for their family. The Brown County History Center and Pioneer Village

The Pioneer Village is open for the summer/fall season. The village will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Tours can be arranged upon request. Call the B.C. History center at (812) 988-2899 to make arrangements. The Village is maintained by donations. Come and visit the past.
