Joseph P. “Joe” Best, age 85 of Nashville, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, September 15, 2024 at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Joe was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 19, 1939 to his parents, the late Paul Joseph and Lola (Lockridge) Best. After graduating high school, Joe went on to serve as a Hospital Corpsman with the First Marine Division of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on May 3, 1963.
Joe retired in 1994 from Environmental Management Services at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Indianapolis after 10 years of service. Prior to that, he worked as a Medical Instrument Technician at the VA. Joe enjoyed visiting with family and friends and always looked forward to solving the world’s problems with his local Breakfast Club. He enjoyed working on his computer, working puzzles and going on long drives through the hills of Brown County. Joe will be remembered for spoiling those he loved with a special gift, usually chocolate.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Best; adopted daughters, Michelle (Jeffrey) Wagers of Nashville and Laura (Joe) Watson of Nashville; adopted grandchildren, Maddison (Sam) Fuson, Alexandria Root, Brian Watson of Bloomington, Sarah (William) Richardson of Hebron, Jacob (Paige) Watson of Greenwood and Joseph Watson of Freetown.
Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Shelton; and an adopted grandson, Keaton Root.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes, he will be cremated. Cremation services have been provided by Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation &Personalization Center in Morgantown.
