Indianapolis man with warrant from U.S. Marshals arrested in Morgantown
MORGANTOWN – A 63-year-old Indianapolis man Douglas Sprunger has been charged with two level 6 felonies for possession of cocaine and methamphetamine and a class C misdemeanor for possession of paraphernalia.
On Sept. 21, Sheriff’s Deputies Zaccary Sheppard, Trevor Johnson, Nick Trevino and Cody Loncaric responded to the area of State Road 135 N. and Railroad Road in reference to a welfare check on Lora Grider. The caller allegedly advised that Grider’s brother who has an outstanding warrant showed up on her property.
When they arrived on the scene, they could hear Grider speaking with a male, she motioned for the deputies to be quiet and pointed toward the wood line. According to the report, at the wood line there was a creek and a male could be seen laying in the creek bed tucked up against the bank on his back with his arms crossed. He was later identified as Sprunger.
Sheppard holstered his weapon and commanded Sprunger to show him his hands and roll over on his stomach.
Dispatch advised the deputies that Sprunger allegedly had a warrant from the U.S. Marshals Service for escape. Sprunger was handcuffed and told the officers he wanted his personal belongings to go to Grider. According to the report, Trevino located a small bag with a brown substance on a table near Sprunger’s belongings. The substance was field tested and reportedly resulted in a positive detection of cocaine HCL, free-base and crack. The deputies searched the Grider’s RV that Sprunger had been been in possession of since March and located a glass pipe allegedly containing methamphetamine.
According to the report, Sprunger has prior convictions for possession of cocaine and paraphernalia.
Nineveh man charged with felony for drug related charges
NINEVEH – A 30-year-old Nineveh man Ronald Elmore Jr. has been charged with a level 6 felony for unlawful possession of a syringe and a class A misdemeanor for resisting law enforcement.
On Sept. 19, Brown County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous phone call that Elmore was in the 7200 block of Thunder Ridge Road. At the time of the phone call, Elmore had seven outstanding arrest warrants.
Sheriff’s Deputies Heath Young, Jacob Gibson, Ethan Morrison, Greg Duke and Oliver Hitz and Reserve Officer Bob Zetty drove to Elmore’s residence and while they were pulling into the driveway, a man in a silver truck who matched Elmore’s description appeared to be leaving.
According to the report, Elmore exited the truck and ran towards the residence. Young and Gibson both got out of their vehicles to instruct Elmore to stop running. He continued towards the house and Gibson, Young and K9 Sampson followed him.
According to the report, Elmore was found inside the bathroom with a hypodermic syringe inside the pocket of his shorts. He was placed into handcuffs and escorted by Duke to his patrol vehicle. Morrison and Young allegedly also found six other hypodermic syringes in the bottom drawer of the vanity where Elmore was originally found. Three syringes were empty, while the others were filled with a dark liquid.
Driver misses deer, strikes a tree
JACKSON TWP. – On Sept. 24, Sheriff’s Deputy Oliver Hitz responded to a crash on W. Three Story Hill Road in Morgantown. When Hitz arrived on the scene, a red Ford F-250 was off the roadway and had crashed into a tree.
18-year-old driver Hayden Myers was driving around 35 miles per hour when a deer jumped into the roadway and he swerved around it. Myers lost control of the vehicle and it slid off the roadway, striking a tree head on.
The front-end, windshield and passenger side fender were damaged as a result of the crash. Myers complained of pain on his right stomach, ribs and head.
The 14-year-old passenger complained of pain in her knee, lower leg and foot. She had a visible abrasion and her ankle was bleeding.
Myers’ stepfather arrived on scene to provide the insurance information.
Sheriff’s Deputy Heath Young detected the odor of alcohol on Myers’ breath. He completed the horizontal gaze nystagmus field test and was given a preliminary breath test that registered his blood alcohol content at 0.171.
