Ronald Vernon Wayt, age 88, of Bloomington, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born November 23, 1935 in Moundsville, West Virginia, he was the son of Earl Wayt and Wilma (Powers) Wayt Howell. Ronald was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked for a brief time as a Brown County Deputy Sheriff, as the Nashville Town Marshall for 14 years, at the Plainfield Correctional Facility and last at the Florida Department of Corrections in Lake County, Florida. Ronald loved his work, his family, which he was very protective of, and his dogs, especially Rosie, his little shih-tzu.
Ronald is survived by his loving wife, Wilma Ethel (Hardin) Wayt, of Bloomington; his three daughters, Cheryl Moore and Rhonda (Dave) Freshour, both of Bloomington and Lisa (Robert “Jim”) Golden, of Bedford, his sister, Shelley McKenzie, of Bradenton, Florida, one step-brother, Gary Howell, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Charles Wayt, Earl Wayt and Larry Wayt, one sister, Donna Wayt and one grandson, Bradley R.E. Dugan.
The funeral service will be on Thursday at 2:00 pm at the Day &Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home in Bloomington. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
