Story’s Spooky Stand-Up among Halloween-themed area events

Story Inn will host a Stand-up Spooky Comedy Show on Saturday in the venue’s historic barn, which also will host The Mad Hatter’s Ball afterward.

Something spooky is stirring in Story … the sounds of cackling fill the air.

Story Inn hosts a monthly comedy night with a revolving lineup of local comedians. Their next show, however, is a little different.

The Stand-up Spooky Comedy Show on Saturday will be hosted in the site’s historic and haunted barn.

“It will be all decorated in Halloween stuff, we’re encouraging people to come to the comedy show in costume. The whole grounds of Story is haunted as well, it’s kind of world famous — definitely Indiana famous for being a haunted place,” Event Manager Aaron Harden said.

Brian Smiley, who also bartends at the Ordinary in Nashville, is set to host the event. Willie Griswold, writer for the Bob and Tom Show in Indianapolis, is on the books as the feature act with Columbus native Jeff Bobart headlining. Bobart was also on the Bob and Tom Show radio cast, in addition to being a cruise ship comedian.

The Mad Hatter’s Ball will directly follow the comedy show as part of the Blue Lady Bash in the barn. The bash includes live music, a costume contest, dancing, awards for Thursday’s pumpkin carving contest and a baked potato bar.

The comedy show is expected to run from 8 to 9:30 p.m. with the ball starting immediately after and wrapping up at midnight.

Tickets for Saturday’s events are $20, and people can either attend one or both events, but the price is the same.

“If you go to the comedy show, you get free admittance to the Halloween Ball and the ball comes with a complimentary baked potato bar, so you can pay $20 and get all of that,” Harden said.

Tickets can be purchased on Saturday at the door. Registration is not necessary. Story Inn is located at 6404 State Road 135 S.
