Brown County early voting shatters records

More than 37% of Brown County registered voters took advantage of early voting that concluded at noon Monday, surpassing the number who voted early in the last presidential general election in 2020, election officials said.

A total of 4,761 voters cast their ballots during early voting at Eagle Park this year, which is greater than the number who voted early and by absentee ballot combined in 2020, according to Brown County Clerk Pearletta Banks. Including absentee ballots, the number of early and absentee voters this year could exceed 5,000. Banks said 360 absentee ballots had been distributed.

By comparison, 4,695 county residents cast their votes either through early voting or by absentee ballot in the 2020 general election.

The surge in early voting appears to follow a statewide trend. According to Howey Politics Indiana/State Affairs, more than 1.5 million Hoosiers voted early, which equals about 31% of registered voters, not including those who voted Monday.

As early voting wrapped up on Monday, candidates, local party officials and campaign volunteers began removing signs from Eagle Park, many of which will migrate to the county’s 11 precincts today.
