Indian Creek to host ‘Appeals on Wheels’ court argument

TRAFALGAR — Indian Creek High School’s Student Council announces an Appeals on Wheels event will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Performing Arts Center.

This program features live oral arguments from the Indiana Court of Appeals and gives students and community members an invaluable opportunity to observe the judicial process firsthand. The event begins with oral arguments at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Q&A session with judges and attorneys.

This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes before the start to ensure a prompt start. The doors open at 9:45 a.m., and entry may not be permitted after the arguments commence.

Indian Creek High School government teacher Kenda Eley shared her enthusiasm for the event, saying, “The judicial branch is often seen as a far-off entity of government that doesn’t have much relevance in our daily lives. Hopefully, this event humanizes the many individuals that make up the judicial branch and work as civil servants to make our communities a better place to live.”

The case being argued is an appeal by Christopher Delgado of his conviction in Porter County of felony battery, misdemeanor resisting law enforcement, and misdemeanor false informing; he also appeals the terms of his probation.

More information about the case, and a livestream of the argument, is available here.
