County donates to Pioneer Village repairs

The Brown County Commissioners donated $25,000 to the Brown County Historical Society at their Feb. 3 meeting for the maintenance of the Pioneer Village buildings.

Two buildings, including the newly renovated log jail downtown, are in need of ongoing repairs, society President Bob Shook said. Originally, only lower logs were to be replaced, but during renovations last year, restoration expert Bird Snyder discovered that logs throughout the exterior walls also need to be replaced.

Work also is needed on the log Community Building next door, Shook said.

The donation is coming from the county’s cumulative capital development fund.

Commissioner Diana Biddle abstained from voting because she on the historical society board.
