We the People bios: Lee and Rygiel

Editor’s note: The Brown County Junior High School We the People team won the state civics contest championship in December and wants to win another national title for Brown County. But first, the team needs to raise about $35,000 to get to the contest in Washington, D.C., from April 29 to May 3. Send donations payable to “Brown County We the People Junior High School” to P.O. Box 578, Nashville, IN 47448. The Brown County Democrat is featuring members of the team each week until the contest.

My name is Chloe Lee. I am in Unit 5 in the We the People class. Unit 5 studies your basic rights such as due process, freedom of speech, freedom of religion and voting rights.I believe that We the People has a big impact on my future life. The class teaches me that it is important to be involved and bipartisan in government.

This class doesn’t just teach us students about government; it teaches us how to be young women and gentlemen. I am very thankful I have taken part in this class.

Although I love government, I am not sure that I will have a future career in it.

Also, whenever I am outside of the We the People class, I am involved in volleyball, softball and cheer teams.

Hi, I’m Isabel Rygiel, and I’m a student of the We the People civics class at Brown County Junior High School. I’m in Unit 5 and my unit studies citizens’ and non-citizens’ basic rights such as freedom of religion, speech, due process and voting rights. Before this class, I knew very little about our government. This class has really impacted me and has made me more informed about our government today and has interested me in how it works. I really enjoy being a part of this class. It has really made me grow as a person.

When I grow up, I hope to have a career involving government and hope to cast a vote at every election.

Lastly, I would like to thank my family for helping bake at bake sales and taking me to town meetings for fundraising.
