BRIGHT SPOT: Nashville’s giving tree

Anyone in need of a little extra warmth can visit this tree at the corner of Jefferson and Washington streets.

Village Florist staff have been wrapping it with scarves and clipping gloves onto it since around Christmastime, said the flower shop’s Wendy Schrimper. Some of the clips where gloves used to be are empty, so she knows someone has benefited from this Giving Tree.

Schrimper said she got the idea from another community and thought it would also be of use in Nashville. This was the first year the flower shop had used the tree for this purpose; it has also doubled as a “memorial tree” for celebrities such as Prince, Mary Tyler Moore and Robin Williams, she said.

There’s a lot of bad news circulating every day, but the world is what you make of it, Schrimper said with a smile.
