Club news for week of Nov. 22

Tri Kappa

BLOOMINGTON — The Tri Kappa Province III convention and officer training took place recently at Sherwood Oaks Church. It was hosted by province officer Stephanie Oyler and members of the Bloomington chapter.

Tri Kappa is a philanthropic organization existing only in Indiana. Membership totals nearly 9,000 in 144 active and 113 chapters. Tri Kappa members donate more than $1.5 million every year to charity, culture and education within their own communities and through state projects.

Officers for 2017 and 2018, attending from Brown County Zeta Phi Chapter were: president Dawn Snider, vice president Joyce Shook, recording secretary Jo Ann Kelly, corresponding secretary Rita Simon, treasurer Peg Lindenlaub, adviser/parliamentarian Phyllis Bond, and member and state representative for chapters and charters Karen Kirby. Kirby presented her committee report with the use of props and visual aids.

Training sessions were conducted for delegates, chapter officers and scholarship representatives. After the luncheon, the fine arts committee representative presented a report and awards were given to fine arts competition winners. Brenda Main and Kirby, both of Brown County, won first and second prizes in their division.

The convention concluded with a keynote address by council president Lynn Payne from the Anderson Xi Chapter.

Cemetery preservation society

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society, a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group, has changed its meeting dates and times to 1 and 4:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month. The cemetery preservation committee will meet in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. The public is welcome at all events.

Peaceful Valley group

Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc. is a preservation group which meets at 6:30 p.m the second Tuesday of each month in the Brown County Community Foundation (Howard F. Hughes) Building, 209 N. Van Buren St. Meetings are open to the public. The next meeting is Dec. 12.

WRAPS

The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. The next meeting is Dec. 7. Meetings are at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.

Weight-loss group

COLUMBUS — National nonprofit weight-loss group, Take Off Pounds Sensibly, also known as TOPS, meets in the MainSource Bank meeting room, 2310 W. Jonathan Moore Pike. Monday meetings begin with weigh-ins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 11:30 a.m.
