WIC Championship

Greencastle 298, Owen Valley 323, Northview 328, Edgewood 336, Indian Creek 340, Brown County 348, South Putnam 356, Cloverdale 362, Cascade 363, West Vigo 386, Sullivan 390, North Putnam 407

Brown Co.: Parker VanNess 72, Ben Rygiel 84, Curtis Lookebill 94, Brendon Asher 98, Peyton Proctor 113.

Coach’s comments: For the first time in recent years, the WIC golf championships were contested in near-ideal conditions, enabling individuals and teams to post some quality scores. With all five players at 80 or lower, the Greencastle Tiger Cubs won the event, posting a 298. The Tiger Cubs’ Jake Bennett shot a three-under 69 to take medalist honors.

Brown County fired its best 18-hole score, 348, to snag a sixth-place position in the competitive field. For the Eagles, Parker VanNess recorded a 72, good enough for runner-up and a spot on the All-Conference team for the third consecutive year. Ben Rygiel played his best golf of the season and just missed the All-Conference cut with an 84. Also recording his best score of the season was Curtis Lookebill with a 94. Thirteen players finished at 80 or lower. Last year, only two players eclipsed that mark.

May 15

Hauser 197, Brown County 180

Brown Co.: Parker VanNess 35, Ben Rygiel 46, Brendon Asher 49, Curtis Lookebill 50, Peyton Proctor 60, Rex Watters 62, Bob Cao 65, Emerey Brock 67.

Coach’s comments: After a tough start, Parker VanNess birdied three of the last four holes to shoot a one-under 35 and lead the Eagles to a victory over the Hauser Jets Monday afternoon at Salt Creek Golf Retreat. VanNess’s score was one better than the Jets’ Justin Compton, whose 36 paced Hauser. Ben Rygiel (46) played another solid round, and Brendon Asher (49) and Curtis Lookebill (50) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles.

With the win, the Eagles now stand at 14 wins and 13 losses for the season.

Brown Co.: Parker VanNess 36, Curtis Lookebill 43, Ben Rygiel 47, Brendon Asher 50, Peyton Proctor 53, Rex Watters 65, and Jake Huddleston 70.

The BCHS Eagles played well, posting one of their best nine-hole scores of the year, but lost to the Indian Creek Braves who were just too tough to handle on their home course. Junior Parker VanNess captured medalist honors with an even par round of 36, four strokes better than the Braves’ Scott Russell who finished second.

Curtis Lookebill followed up his solid play in the conference tournament, turning in a 43, while Ben Rygiel was the only other Eagle golfer to break 50 with a 47.
