Brown County fair entry deadlines, dates approaching

Brown County Fair deadlines and events are happening before fair week officially kicks off with the Brown County Fair Queen and Princess Pageant at 8 p.m. July 29.

Pre-fair events:

Saturday, July 21: Baby contest at 6 p.m. in the Exhibit Building. (Entry deadline has passed.)

Sunday, July 22: 4-H Cat Show at 3 p.m. in the Pavilion

Tuesday, July 24: Rabbit Showmanship at 7 p.m. in the Poultry and Rabbit Barn

Friday, July 27: 4-H Dog Show, agility, at 7 p.m. in the Animal Barns

Saturday, July 28: 4-H Dog show, obedience and showmanship, at 8 a.m. in the Commercial Building

Saturday, July 28: Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. in the Grandstand

Entry deadlines:

Sunday, July 22: Early entry of 4-H exhibits (non-animal) from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Exhibit Building

Monday, July 23: Entry deadline for the Junior King/Queen, Junior Prince/Princess, Junior Mister/Miss and Little Mister/Miss contests for ages 3 to 15. Entry forms are available at the Brown County Purdue Extension office on Memorial Drive in Nashville or in the free Brown County 4-H Fair Preview Guide at the Brown County Democrat.

Tuesday, July 24: Entry of all 4-H exhibits (non-animal) from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Exhibit Building

Saturday, July 28: Entry of Open Class exhibits (non-perishable) from 10 a.m. to noon in the Exhibit Building

Sunday, July 29: Entry of 4-H livestock from 7 to 10 p.m. in Animal Barns

Tuesday, July 31: Brown County Fair Pie Contest entry between 5 and 6:15 p.m. in the Exhibit Building. Judging starts at 6:30 p.m.

Pick up a free Brown County Fair Preview guide at the Brown County Democrat office on East Main Street or at the Brown County Public Library.

Back-to-school dates to mark on calendars

Summer break is approaching its end already.

Brown County high and junior high school registration will take place during 4-H fair week. Junior high registration will be between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 31 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1.

High school registration will be between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. July 31 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 1.

Open houses for elementary and intermediate students will happen Monday, Aug. 6 at each school. The elementary schools will be open from 5 to 6 p.m. and the intermediate school from 6 to 7 p.m.

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 8.

Open house at the junior high will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Aug. 8. The high school open house will be from 6 to 7 p.m. A meet-and-greet with new high school Principal Matt Stark will start at 5:30 p.m.
