CLERK REMINDS VOTERS OF UPCOMING VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Brenda Woods, Clerk of the Brown Circuit Court, reminds residents that October 9, 2018 is the last day to register to vote or make changes to a current registration for the General Election on November 6, 2018.  If you have moved or changed your name, it is important to update your voter registration.

Voter registration forms and instructions for submitting them are available at the Clerk’s Office or on the Secretary of State’s website at http://www.in.gov/sos/elections/2403.htm.  Voters may also register at numerous government offices, including the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.  Voters can register to vote online, check their registration status, find the location of their polling place, and see who will be on their ballot by visiting www.indianavoters.com.

Absentee voting by mail is underway.  Voters may call the Clerk’s Office to request an application for absentee ballot.  The deadline for the clerk to receive an application to vote absentee by mail is Monday, October 29, 2018. The Clerk will begin mailing ballots on September 22, 2018.

Walk in absentee voting will be held in the Clerk’s Office (Small Conference Room) located on the first floor of the County Office Building.  Walk in absentee voting will be available:

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm beginning on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 through Friday, November 2, 2018.
  • Saturday, October 27, 2018 and November 3, 2018 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
  • Monday, November 5, 2018 from 8:00 am to noon

All walk in absentee and Election Day voters need to present their government issued photo identification prior to voting.  In order to be acceptable, the identification must state the name of the voter, contain their photograph, have an expiration date and still be valid or expired after November 8, 2016 and be issued by the State of Indiana or United States Government.

Absentee and Election Day in person voting will be conducted on touch screen machines. If you prefer to vote on a paper ballot, you must request an application for a mail in ballot and the ballot would then be mailed to you.
