Coach’s comments: After a Tuesday postponement due to rain, the Brown County boys golf team traveled to The Legends Golf Club in Franklin on Wednesday to face the Whiteland Warriors and ran into a buzz saw. With four golfers shooting under 40, the Warriors shot a 151, establishing a new school nine-hole scoring record. Junior Zach Ricketts fired an even par 36 to lead his team and grab medalist honors. Though they were soundly beaten, the Eagles’ 185 was actually two strokes better than their current nine-hole average. Brown County has one regular season match left, a May 28 home date with Morristown. Seniors Curtis Lookebill and Parker VanNess will be recognized in a senior night ceremony following the match.

Coach’s comments: On Thursday evening, several members of the boys track and field team competed in the Bloomington Track and Field Regional in hopes of securing a spot in the state championship next weekend at Indiana University. Seniors Dale Phelps and Jackson McPheeters both had qualifying performances that earned them a return trip to the finals. Dale Phelps qualified in the 300 hurdles with a third-place finish in a personal-best time of 40.79. Phelps also finished fourth in the 110 hurdles, just missing the third place state qualifying spot by one one-hundredth of a second. McPheeters ran a very strategic race by taking the lead early on in the 800-meter run and hanging on for a second-place finish in a time of 1:56.65. Like Phelps, his finish was very close, as he was less than half a tenth from the regional champion. Both Eagles will compete next Friday evening (May 31)in Bloomington. As a team, the Eagles finished 10th out of 37 teams in the meet. The other Eagle participants in the regional included Ricky Stanley in the pole vault, Marino Dolph in the 800 (12th at 2:04.54), and the 4×800 of Dolph, Aidan Burt, Waylon Patrick and Cameron Fox (12th at 8:55.04).
