Police blotter for week of Sept. 25

Staff reports

CORDRY-SWEETWATER — A 39-year-old Brown County man has been charged with a felony after police say he picked a woman up and threw her into a wall.

On Sept. 15 just after 4 p.m., deputies with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department responded to a home in the 7000 block of Fir Drive for a physical domestic situation. The caller said Craig Jones had shoved her and she fell against a door, according to a probable cause affidavit by Deputy Chad Williams.

Jones told police he had told the woman to limit her drinking, which caused her to get upset. He said the woman came at him while they were in the garage and he pushed her away, causing her to trip and fall into the door.

Jones told police that the woman hit him in the head with her hand after the incident.

The woman said that Jones had told her to limit her beers because it was “his house and she needed to listen,” the affidavit states.

They started to argue, and Jones picked her up by her arms and threw her into the wall, she told police. She said she hit the door handle with her tailbone.

The woman told police she couldn’t get up for a few minutes because of the pain. She walked upstairs to the main floor, where Jones tried to hug her, the police report said. She told him to get away from her.

When she went back downstairs, Jones walked by her and she began cursing at him, then struck him on the head with her hand, the report said.

The woman denied going after Jones first and said that he just picked her up to throw her.

She declined treatment by EMS.

Another woman and six children were in the house at the time of the incident. The woman told police she heard yelling, but did not witness the fight. One child had asked her what was going on after hearing the yelling, according to the affidavit.

One man was in the garage when the two began arguing. He reported hearing Jones say something about the home being his and he would call the police. He yelled something else before grabbing the woman, picking her up and throwing her in the door, he reported.

Jones was arrested and taken to the Brown County jail. On Sept. 16, he was charged with domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a Level 6 felony.
