Club news for week of Feb. 5

Lions club

The Brown County Lions Club meets the third Tuesday of each month at the Seasons Lodge and Conference Center, 560 State Road 46 East, with a dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be Feb. 18.

The Lions Club board meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane. Anyone interested in Lions is invited to attend. The next board meeting will be Feb. 4.

Woodworkers club

HELMSBURG — The Brown County Woodworkers Club will meet Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. at The Beamery, 2082 State Road 45 (former For Bare Feet sock factory). Large timber frames is their business.

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6 at the Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St.

The guest speaker will be Matt Stark, principal of Brown County High School. Stark graduated from Purdue University in 1991 with a bachelor of arts in history and in 1992 with a bachelor of arts in social studies education and began teaching at Brown County High School in the fall of 1992.

He taught world history, government, media and society and current issues. In February of 2002, he became the assistant principal at BCHS and then became principal for the 2002-03 school year. In 2013, he moved to Illinois and became principal of Urbana High School and returned to BCHS as principal in July of 2018.

Stark will discuss current programs and progress at BCHS and possibilities and prospects for the future.

Members of the community — especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to the community — are invited to attend.

Widowed group

The Brown County Widowed Group will meet Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Sycamore Valley Community Center at the Brown County fairgrounds. The topic of discussion will be the stages of grief.

Cemetery preservation

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St., Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 4:15 p.m. The society is a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group. All are welcome.

Peaceful Valley Heritage

Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc., a preservation group, meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be at the Brown County Community Foundation building, 209 N. Van Buren St., on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Pioneer Women

The Pioneer Women’s Club meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. Interested women are welcome.

Book club

A Novel Bunch book club meets every third Wednesday at the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane, at 2 p.m. in meeting room B. The next meeting is Feb. 19. For more information, call the library at 812-988-2850.
