YMCA offers free swim lessons; classes restarting

The Brown County YMCA, 105 Willow St., is offering free swim lessons to children ages 3 to 14. Lessons will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 to 11:40 a.m. for two weeks, beginning Monday, July 13.

Three levels are offered: Beginners (ages 3 to 5), intermediate (5+ years old) and advanced (6 to 14 years old).

An intro to swimming course for adults will be coming soon.

Silver Sneakers fitness classes are also up and running at the Y. Silver Sneakers is covered by most Medicare and/or health insurance for seniors. The YMCA offers Silver Sneakers Yoga, Silver Splash (water aerobics) and Silver Sneakers Classic (chair exercises). All classes are free for Silver Sneakers members and classes are available for a fee for nonmembers.

The Y’s Summer Child Care Program is available for another four weeks and there are still openings.

Youth marksmanship club forming locally

The Hoosier Hills Rifle and Pistol Club is sponsoring a new shooting sports program for boys and girls ages 13 to 18. Youth will learn gun safety, marksmanship skills and earn skill awards using .22 caliber rifles, shooting at paper targets at an outdoor range.

Certified and coaches will provide instruction. Training and practices will take place on Wednesday evenings. For more information, call 812-376-8922.

Yoga and acupuncture event happening at inn

Erica Weddle of Simply Fitness and Leah Craig of Roots of Healing Acupuncture will host an evening of exploring general yoga and acupuncture at The Yellowwood, 911 Sam’s Hill Road, on Sunday, July 26 from 7 to 8 p.m.

The class is limited to six participants. Social distancing and masks are to be used as needed. Participants must provide their own mats.

Women’s mountain biking weekend set for fall

DNK Presents will host Campside Sessions Women’s Mountain Bike Camp Saturday through Sunday, Sept. 18 to 20, at Brown County State Park.

Participants will be instructed by professional coaches. Meals and primitive on-site camping is included.
