Rex Thompson Jr.

Rex Thompson Jr., 84, of Nashville, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020 at his home.
Rex was born Oct. 28, 1935, in Brown County, Indiana, the son of Rex and Millie Ann Cody Thompson, Sr. He first married Janice Emberton in July 1956 (divorced) and then married Cynthia Louise Egloff on March 31, 1979. She preceded him in death on July 7, 2012.
Mr. Thompson graduated from Nashville High School in 1953. He enlisted in the Untied States Army as a paratrooper and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1959. Rex owned and operated a propane business in Martinsville, Indiana. He sold and worked for Skelly Oil and Worrall Propane until 1966. He then went to work for Cummins Engine Company in 1966, eventually retiring in September of 1995. Rex obtained a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering at Purdue University and worked another five years part time at Cummins Midrange Plant in Walesboro. He loved to golf, hunt, be outdoors, horseback riding and camping.
Mr. Thompson coached little league baseball and football. He was elected as president of Brown County Little League Football. Rex was a past member of the Boy Scouts, Yorkrite, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine and past president of the Brown County Shrine Club. He was also a present member of the Nashville Moose Lodge 135.
Survivors include his son, Robert L. Thompson of Nashville; step-son, Craig (Pam) Rust of Peoria, Illinois, step-daughter, Amy E. Reedy of Fishers; grandchildren, Maddie, Adam, Nicholas, Laine, Lauren, Jack; brother, Raymond (Diane) Thompson, also of Nashville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cynthia; brother, Richard G. (Shirley) Thompson; sister, Dorothy M. Lewis and twin sisters who died at birth.
In keeping with the family’s request, cremation will take place and a celebration of life will be held at the Salt Creek Golf Course Banquet Hall at a later date.
