SCHOOL NEWS: School board approves staff changes, trip, grant

The Brown County School Board of Trustees approved the following Sept. 17:

  • The acceptance of a $5,000 matching grant from the Brown County Community Foundation for the Career Resource Center jail literacy program.
  • An out-of-country field trip led by Lauren Spiece to Costa Rica from Monday, May 31, 2021 to Wednesday, June 9, 2021. This is rescheduled from the original trip that was to take place in March 2020. This trip is dependent upon Centers for Disease Control travel recommendations in place at that time.
  • Separating Van Buren Elementary School before- and after-school care supervisor Jamie Rumple, effective July 15. This was not a termination.
  • Separating Helmsburg Elementary School Spell Bowl coach Jayne Jones, effective Sept. 15. This was not a termination.
  • Separating Sprunica Elementary School Spell Bowl coach Cynthia Baughman, effective Sept. 17. This was not a termination.
  • Appointing HES Spell Bowl coach Brandi Lunsford, effective Sept. 15.
  • Appointing SES Spell Bowl coach Billie Thomas, effective Sept. 17.
  • Appointing VBES Math Bowl coaches Heather Sawyer and Piper Nicholson, split stipend, effective Sept. 17.
  • Appointing VBES Science Bowl coaches Michael Brown and Darlene Radloff, split stipend, effective Sept. 17.
  • Appointing VBES Spell Bowl coaches Tina Robertson and Michelle Wagers, split stipend, effective Sept. 17.
  • Appointing VBES Instructional Technology coach Makenzie Duncan, effective Sept. 17.
