Brown County COAD’s pop-up food pantry on Aug. 27 at Van Buren Elementary School provided more than 150 households with fresh groceries. Since starting pop-up food pantries in April, Brown County COAD has seen an average of 120 families or households come through each one. Pop-up food pantry happening this week

BEAN BLOSSOM — A drive-thru, pop-up food pantry will be operated at Bill Monroe Music Park, 5163 State Road 135 North, on Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. or while supplies last.

The pantry is being offered by Brown County COAD, St. Vincent de Paul, Midwest Food Bank and the Brown County YMCA.

Christmas auction starting online this month

The 43rd annual Brown County Children’s Auction will happen virtually beginning Saturday, Nov. 20 at 8 a.m. and closing at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2.

All proceeds are used to buy clothes for Brown County children in need.

Bidding for items will take place on the auction’s Facebook page in the comments section under photos of the items. Visit facebook.com/bcchildrensauction for instructions and bidding.

Monetary donations toward this cause are accepted at PNC Bank or People’s State Bank in Nashville.

Library has secondhand books and more available

The Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane, has its Book Nook open, with a variety of used books, audio books, music on CD and DVDs for children, adults and teens.

All are welcome to browse the sidewalk carts near the entryway of the upper level of the library, or come inside and browse during library open hours: Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Money raised through the Book Nook and donations directly support the library’s programs and activities.

Annual tree lighting ceremony set for November

The sixth annual Community Tree Lighting will take place on Friday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. This year’s ceremony will be a mini ceremony with lighting the tree, the History Center and the schoolhouse to kick off the holiday season.

Visitors are asked to wear masks and socially distance. The 2020 souvenir wooden nickels will be passed out next year along with the 2021 wooden nickel. The History Center will be closed during the ceremony. Recorded music will be played, but no live music, snacks or hot chocolate will be provided.

Local bluebird club selling nesting boxes

The Brown County Bluebird Club’s annual bluebird nest box sale is underway. Boxes are all cedar and fully assembled. One box is $15 and two boxes are $25. If interested, call Dan Sparks at 812-200-5700.
