Council conditionally approves salary ordinance
The Brown County Council conditionally approved the 2021 salary ordinance for county employees and elected officials to allow the auditor to give them paychecks until the council meets again on Jan. 19.
The salary ordinance is based on the budget the council formally approved in this fall. It includes the pay for each employee or elected official, the pay grade schedule and how the county does emergency call-out pay.
All county employees and elected officials will receive a 3-percent raise for 2021, which was approved as part of the budget process.
Council President Dave Redding suggested approving the ordinance conditionally since the document was missing the exhibit A, or the pay for each employee and elected official, and then the council can vote to approve it next month once the exhibits were added.
For 2021, the lowest base pay for a county employee is $24,826 at pay grade one and goes up to $66,048 for pay grade 35.
The ordinance was approved with council member Gary Huett absent.
Deadline set to get on county council agenda

This is the start of a new procedure for the council. Council President Dave Redding explained that setting a deadline for agenda items will give the auditor enough time to put the agenda together and share any related items with the county council or anyone on the meeting email list, so that everyone is clear on what will be discussed and can prepare beforehand.
Redding said he’ll be posting agendas on his Parler account on social media; the newspaper also will request them to list in the government calendar each week.
