Hall of famers: Runner, wrestler honored for high school athletic careers

Two Brown County High School alumni became the newest members of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Feb. 10.

Chandler Coffey

Chandler Coffey graduated in 2008. He grew up on Sweetwater Lake and attended Sprunica Elementary School.He lettered three years in high school football and all four years in wrestling.

His overall win-loss record for wrestling was 130-20. He qualified two years in a row for the state tournament, winning the 2008 semistate title in his weight class and placing sixth in the state. He also was a back-to-back sectional and regional champion in 2007 and 2008. He made Team Indiana three times and was a 2006 Cadet Duals All-American.

He also made the all-state team in football.

Coffey wrestled for Indiana University and transferred to Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis to complete a degree in construction management.

He now lives in Oregon and works as a project engineer for Advanced American Construction Inc. He is the son of Kimble and Michele Coffey.

Curtis Carr

Curtis Carr, a 2007 BCHS graduate, ran Division I cross country and track for Brigham Young University.He was named an NCAA Track and Field All-American in 2013 at the 3000m steeplechase.

Carr lettered in cross country and track all four years of high school.

He was a state runner-up in the cross country championships and earned the state mental attitude award. He also was named to the cross country all-sectional, all-regional and all-semistate teams and earned all-conference honors.

In high school track, Carr competed in the 2006 and 2007 state meets. He finished runner-up in the mile at the state championship. He still holds the BCHS record in the 1-mile, 2-mile and 5K.

Carr is married with one son and is working as a financial advisor for the Vanguard Group. He is the son of James Carr and Sheila Cox Dollar.
