Wellness retreat planned in February

A winter wellness retreat is planned Thursday to Friday, Feb. 1 to 2, with an overnight stay at Oak Haven Bed and Breakfast, 2668 Owl Creek Road.

The retreat begins around 3 p.m. Thursday with bodywork options, settling into accommodations and dinner or snacks on your own. Bodywork options are 30 minutes each for $30 each: massage, reflexology, acupuncture and/or cupping. An appointment is required.

The package price is $175 per person. Roommates can share a queen-sized bed for $125 per person.

Yoga and special speaker at Helmsburg studio

HELMSBURG — Richard Brendan, host of “Walk The Talk” at the Vogue and Buskirk Chumley theaters, will give a talk Saturday, Feb. 3 at Barefoot Yoga, 2082 State Road 45. Janiece Jaffe will play the singing bowls.

Register for run, walk through town

The 5K Dash for a Heart Run/Walk will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11 at the Brown County YMCA.

Sponsored by the Y, the event will go along Salt Creek Trail, through the west side of Nashville and back to the Y.

Registration costs $20 before the date or $25 the day of the event.

New fitness, swim class sessions start Feb. 12

The Brown County Community YMCA will kick off its second session of classes Monday, Feb. 12. The session, including swim lessons and several types of fitness classes, runs through Sunday, April 1, with no classes during spring break, March 12 to 15.

Swim lessons for all ages and ability levels are a new offering for 2018.

Mommy & Me and beginner swim lessons will be on Saturdays.

Developmental swim classes are designed for established swimmers who would like to work on strokes; improve technique; and learn to be faster, stronger and more confident swimmers. USA SWIM certified coach Jeff Watts teaches those classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Other classes offered at the Y include yoga, Pilates, cycling, resistance training and aquatics, with morning and evening classes available.

The flex pass allows a person to try out many different classes.

Yoga classes offered in old Helmsburg school

HELMSBURG — Barefoot Yoga, 2082 State Road 45, offers classes in the old Helmsburg School which used to be the offices of the For Bare Feet sock company.

Classes are taught by Patty Donaldson at 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:45 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9:45 a.m. Saturdays.

Individual classes and weekend groups are also available upon request.

Yoga variety offered at Simply Fitness

Simply Fitness, 59 E. Main St., is offering beginner yoga at 12:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays. The cost is $5 per 30-minute session.

Vinyasa flow yoga is taught at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays for $10 per 45-minute session.

Private training or yoga packages are available for the new year.

Vin to Yin Yoga with Annie is taught from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays by Annie Patrick Buechlein. The pace of the class will depend on student needs and learning style. Sessions cost $12 each, by reservation only.

Yin/Restorative Yoga w/Annie is a 90-minute class that starts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. By reservation only, sessions cost $18 each.

Free running club open to all levels

Brown County Runners, a club open to all paces, plans free weekly runs on trails and roads in and around Brown County.

The club runs most Wednesdays at 6 p.m., usually in Brown County State Park and often does a Saturday or Sunday morning run at one of the parks or forests.

Kyokushin karate training offered

Sensei David Michaelis is offering training in traditional kyokushin karate.

Classes are for students 16 and older twice a week, at 6 p.m. Thursdays and 4 p.m. Sundays.

Michaelis has trained and taught kyokushin karate for more than 35 years. Kyokushin, Japanese for “the society of the ultimate truth,” is a style of stand-up, full-contact karate. It is intended to foster humility, perseverance and nonviolence and to provide a foundation for improving physical and mental discipline.

Disc golf league plays every Tuesday

The Brown County Disc Golf Alliance plays regularly in Brown County and new members are welcome.

The group plays Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at Deer Run Park or at the Brown County Country Club, alternating months. In February, it’s the park.

Players of all skill levels are welcome, including those who have never played before. Loaner discs are available.
