Anonymous tip leads to meth arrest

A report of a suspicious person behind a restaurant ended with a Brown County man being arrested on drug possession charges.

At 12:19 p.m. June 26, Nashville Police Officer Evan Painter responded to a home behind the Big Woods Brewery for a suspicious person in a red shirt walking to and from the front door to a black truck in the driveway. The anonymous caller believed this was drug-related.

Painter reported that the man in the red shirt — Adam Floyd, 38, of Stevens Road — appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic based on his “jumpy” behavior. He seemed “very nervous” and could not sit still, the police report said. Another person was sitting in the truck in the driveway.

While Painter was speaking with the men, dispatch said that the caller had seen Floyd put something under the right driver’s side tire as Painter arrived. The caller said Floyd had stomped on it multiple times, the police report said.

Floyd said he didn’t know what Painter was talking about when he asked what was under the tire. Painter placed Floyd in handcuffs and had the driver back up slowly so that he could search the tire.

He reported finding a small amount of foil on the ground with burn marks inside. When he opened the foil, he found a cloudy, crystalline substance inside which police believed to be methamphetamine, the report said.

Floyd denied knowing anything about the foil. The man in the truck was in the Community Corrections program, so his truck was also searched, but no illegal items were found, the report said.

Floyd was taken to the Brown County jail. He continued to deny that the substance was his. He was charged June 28 with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.
