Get free school clothing, supplies this weekend

By JENNY AUSTIN, for The Democrat

With Brown County kids heading back to school soon, shopping for school clothes and shoes is on many parents’ to-do list. Purchasing these items, along with the costs of book rental, lab fees, and other items associated with getting students ready to learn, can be burdensome for many families.

On The Road Again is an expansion of God’s Grace Clothing Mission. The event focuses on helping kids feel prepared and eager to get back to school by supplying clothing, shoes and personal grooming essentials free of charge.

This back-to-school clothing event will take place between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, July 28 at the Larry Banks Memorial Gymnasium at Brown County High School.

On The Road Again is a nonprofit organization funded by corporate grants, as well as donations from local churches, businesses and residents, with the goal of helping students from preschool through high school feel the comfort, acceptance and excitement of returning to Brown County schools each autumn.

Children will have access to new and gently used shirts, pants, shoes, pajamas, socks and underwear, as well as shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and other grooming aids.

Volunteer, licensed beauticians will also be on site to give kids free haircuts. Many other volunteers in red aprons will assist kids and parents in making clothing selections as needed.

Additional volunteers, or anyone wishing to make a tax-deductible cash donation to support this successful and growing outreach program, are encouraged to contact its founder and director, Mary Kilgore, at 812-720-1187.
