Marguerite Alice Kelley

Marguerite Alice (Spangler) Kelley, 94, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, in her Nashville home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Earl and Marguerite Thora Van der Hoven Spangler on April 24, 1924.

Marguerite was the owner of Kelley Greenhouse for many years in Nashville, Kelley Publishing Company and two farms. She and her husband, R. Dale Kelley, were charter members of the Brown County Genealogy Society. Marguerite was the librarian for the society and did extensive research on her own family history. She also worked for the Brown County treasurer, auditor and for Brown County Abstract. She was a member of Christiansburg Methodist Church where she was church treasurer for many years.

Marguerite was passionate about reading, loved putting together jigsaw puzzles with her family and made many beautiful crochet pieces. She dearly loved her cats. She was a wonderful cook and many stories revolve around her desserts and yeast rolls.

Marguerite is survived by her four children; Rick and Brenda Kelley, Marianne and Stan Schultz, John Kelley and Robin Kelley. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Jennifer Plumlee, Elizabeth Jourdan, Kelley Newman, Jesse Menoni, Will Schultz and Jasmine Kelley; and seven great-grandchildren.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, R. Dale Kelley; and her brother, Richard Spangler.

Friends called Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 in Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home. The funeral service was conducted Sept. 1, with Pastor Glen Percifield officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery.
