Two people received immediate medical attention the morning of Feb. 21 after a head-on collision involving two vehicles on State Road 46 West.

Nicholas Barkdull, 35, of Brown County, told police he was driving west on State Road 46 West at about 6:44 a.m. when he hit a patch of ice in the 5900 block, causing him to lose control of his vehicle, according to an accident report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Williams.

Barkdull said he overcorrected, and that caused him to go into the eastbound lane where he collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Pablo Guerrero, 29, of Bloomington.

Guerro told police he saw Barkdull’s vehicle enter his lane of travel, but he was unable to avoid a collision.

When police arrived, the drivers and passengers involved were up and walking.

Guerrero had a complaint of pain in his shoulder and upper arm area that required immediate attention, according to the report. Guerrero’s passenger, 29-year-old Brian Chelius of Ellettsville, had pain in his back that also required immediate medial attention, the report states.

The drivers and passenger were wearing their seat belts. Airbags deployed in both vehicles. Both vehicles were towed.
