Two people were taken to the hospital on Feb. 24 after a driver crossed the center line and collided with another vehicle on State Road 46 West.

Nathaniel Volckmann, 20, of Michigan City, told police he was driving west on 46 West when he came around a curve and went across the center line. Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Stargell took the accident report.

Volckmann’s met a vehicle driven by Dalton Beasley, 25, of Nashville. Both tried to swerve avoid a collision, but they swerved in the same direction, the report said.

The head-on crash was reported just after 6 p.m. in the 1600 block of 46 West, in the area of the west gate of Brown County State Park.

Volckmann had a laceration on his right hand, a cut on his lip and a complaint of shoulder pain. Beasley said he was not injured, but both men were transported to Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital for an evaluation due to the extent of damage to both vehicles, the report states.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and both vehicles were towed. Air bags did deploy in both vehicles.
