Silver Alert issued for missing Brown County man

A Silver Alert has been issued for a missing 76-year-old Brown County man who wandered away from his home on Mt. Liberty Road yesterday afternoon.

Joseph Carmer left his home at about 4:30 p.m. yesterday, according to a press release from the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

Just before 6 p.m. police were dispatched to a home in the 2900 block of Mt. Liberty Road in reference to the missing man.

Carmer is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 173 pounds. He has green eyes and gray hair, the release states.

He was last seen wearing a black zip-up sweatshirt, light blue pants and was possibly wearing a baseball cap. He has a “MOM” tattoo on his right forearm.

Deputies conducted an immediate search yesterday for Carmer and requested a K9 from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

After being unable to find Carmer with the K9, thermal imaging drones were requested from the Bargersville Police Department and Columbus Fire Department. Ground support from South Brown Volunteer Fire Department, Southwest Volunteer Fire Department and Cordry-Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Department was also requested, according to the press release.

Utility terrain vehicles from the Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department and Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Department were requested as well.

According to dispatch traffic this morning, Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department was also sending a drone to the area of Mt. Liberty Road to assist in the search.

A helicopter with thermal imaging searched the area as well, but was unsuccessful, the press release states.

Around 40 people from public safety were involved in the search. It was suspended at 1:50 a.m. today. The search resumed at 8 a.m.
