Injuries reported in crash at state park

Two people were taken to the hospital early in the morning June 16 after a vehicle slid off wet pavement and into a tree at Brown County State Park.

The crash was reported just before 8 a.m. on the main road in the park, according to an accident report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Horn.

The driver, Gerald Sloan, 68, of Bloomington, told police he was driving north in one of the S curves when his vehicle slid off wet pavement and struck a tree.

Sloan and his passenger, Jana Hopkins, 39, of Bloomington, were not wearing their seat belts and hit their heads on the dashboard, the report states.

An ambulance took both to the Indiana University Health Hospital in Bloomington for further treatment. The vehicle was towed.
