Club news for week of Sept. 11

Cemetery preservation

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St., Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 4:15 p.m.

The society is a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group. All are welcome.

Peaceful Valley Heritage

Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc., a preservation group, meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be at the Brown County Community Foundation building, 209 N. Van Buren St., on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Photography club

The Brown County Photography Club will sponsor a free, interactive workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the lower level of the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane. Anyone with an interest in photography is welcome to attend and learn more about depth of field and how it can affect your photos. Participants should bring their camera and a tripod, if possible.

Pioneer Women

The Pioneer Women’s Club meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. Interested women are welcome.

Genealogical society

The Brown County Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane. Brent Gill will speak on Native American history, culture and tradition.

On Thursday, Oct. 10, member Kathy Evans will speak about “Things You Wish You’d Found,” some unusual sources of genealogical information, starting at 1 p.m.

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St.

The guest speaker will be John Kennard, Brown County environmental health specialist supervisor, who will present and discuss the proposed septic ordinance for Brown County. If you own a home in Brown County or drink the water, this affects you.

Kennard earned a bachelor’s degree in business management with a minor in accounting from Mississippi State University. He began working in the grocery industry in high school, continued while a full-time student at Mississippi State, and after college worked in the retail food industry until he joined the Brown County Health Department in 1999 where he recently celebrated his 20th anniversary.

Kennard is a former county commissioner and current member of the Brown County Parks and Recreation Board.

Members of the community — especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to the community — are welcome to attend.

Widowed group

The Brown County Widowed Group will meet at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Sycamore Valley Community Center on the fairgrounds. The topic for discussion will be “What Makes People Laugh? Members are asked to bring examples for discussion.

Herb society

The Brown County Herb Society meets the third Monday of each month. The club will meet in the lower level at the Brown County Public Library on Monday, Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. All are welcome to join.

Veteran Bible study

The Brown County Veteran’s Chaplain Corps Bible Study for Veterans meets the first Thursday of each month at Veterans Hall, 902 Deer Run Lane, from 9 to 10 a.m. The next meeting will be Oct. 3. For more information, call 317-439-0207.
