Election-related deadlines, events coming up

Vote campaign

This fall, voters who live in the town limits of Nashville will vote for three town offices.

The rest of Brown County doesn’t have the opportunity to vote until next spring, but events and deadlines are still coming up related to the 2020 presidential election.

TOWN VOTERS

REGISTER: The deadline to register to vote in the November town election is Monday, Oct. 7. If you’re not sure if you’re registered, or if you moved since the last election, go to indianavoters.com or call the Brown County clerk’s office at 812-988-5510.

WHO? The three offices up for election on Tuesday, Nov. 5 will be two town council seats and the town clerk-treasurer. All town voters vote for all offices regardless of district. District 2 town council candidates are Alisha Gredy (independent) and Raymond D. Modglin (Republican). Andrew W. Tilton (independent) also was on the ballot for District 2, but it was discovered he does not live in the district, so his name was removed without challenge. District 3 town council candidates are Jane Gore (independent) and Mike “Possum” Roberts (independent). Brenda Young is running unopposed for Nashville clerk-treasurer.

LEARN: Candidate questionnaires will be printed in the Oct. 9 issue of the Brown County Democrat. A candidate forum will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at Town Hall. Both are organized by the Brown County League of Women Voters.

COUNTY VOTERS

TRY OUT: Voters are encouraged to try many different types of voting machines on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at the Brown County Public Library. The county is bidding out its voting machine contract for the first time in several years. Machines will be set up in the lower level of the library between 4 and 7 p.m.

CHECK: Voters who may not have voted in recent past elections should double-check their registration status. The county clerk’s office has been sending voter registration cards in the mail to check on voters’ addresses, and voters who do not follow the instructions may be placed on “inactive” status for a time. Call the county clerk’s office at 812-988-5510.
