Christmas came a few days early for the Brown County Humane Society this year. Thanks to the support of so many, the full amount of $200,000 was raised to create the Dr. James Brester Animal Treatment Room within the new shelter.

The humane society made the announcement on Dec. 23 on its Facebook page.

The community rallied to raise $80,000, which was matched by the Howard Hughes Passthrough Fund. That group contributed the additional $120,000 toward the naming opportunity.

Megan Gushwa, development manager for the Brown County Humane Society said: “We are ecstatic to be able to make this announcement and share the great news with everyone who made this possible. From all of us at the humane society, as well as Doc Brester and his family, thank you.”

With the $200,000 for the Dr. Brester challenge, the total raised for the new shelter building stands at $3,086,081 of the $3.2 million goal. Groundwork is expected to begin in spring of 2020.
