Police blotter for week of Sept. 2

Police: Man poked woman with knives

SPEARSVILLE — A 40-year-old Brown County man faces a felony charge for the second time in less than two weeks after police say he poked an elderly woman with knives and made her fear for her life.

On Aug. 4, police responded to a home in the 1400 block of Hornettown Road for a report of a possible physical domestic disturbance.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholson Briles reported that the victim was telling him that he needed to take Anthony Callon to jail. She was on the verge of tears and told the officer that Callon was going to kill her, according to the affidavit.

She told Briles that Callon had multiple knives in the home that he was constantly poking her and threatening her with, but that he did not poke her enough to draw blood, the affidavit states.

Briles noted that Callon was wearing only athletic shorts with no pockets when police arrived, so he most likely did not have a knife on him at the time.

The victim told Briles that Callon was trying to go to bed that evening and was trying to get his dog to go with him. When the dog didn’t go, he began pulling on its leg, and the victim told him to stop because he was hurting the animal. Callon then allegedly grabbed her around the wait and held her, the affidavit states. She began to swing her hands and slapped him to get away from him, she said.

Callon denied grabbing the victim around the waist and that he did not hurt the dog. He said they were arguing when she became aggressive and hit him in the head. Briles reported not seeing any marks on Callon’s head.

Callon told police he had a hunting knife in the house, but that he had not used it that night. Officers were let in the house to look for knives.

Briles reported seeing a small kitchen knife on the coffee table in the living room. Callon pointed out a hunting knife on the kitchen table near his shirt, according to the affidavit.

Callon kept trying to get the officers to leave the home because he was going to bed, but the officers told him they would not leave due to the knives that were found and the victim being afraid. Briles told Callon he could go to bed, but he then refused to do so and did not go to his bedroom until he was commanded multiple times to do so. He then stood at the door and asked to do “different nonsensical things,” according to the affidavit.

Officers took the the victim to a hotel.

Three days later, police were back at the home after Callon allegedly grabbed the same victim by her arms before chasing her in a van as she tried to run from him in a field. He was charged with domestic battery, a Level 5 felony, and criminal recklessness, a Level 6 felony in that case.

On Aug. 19, Callon was charged with domestic battery, another Level 5 felony for the Aug. 4 incident.
