Beekeepers club

The 10 o’clock Beeline Beekeepers Club will have its last monthly meeting of 2020 on Monday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Brown County Public Library in Nashville. Anyone interested in bees or beekeeping is welcome.

The special activity will be a demonstration of how to prepare a “sugar board” to use as emergency food for a beehive during the winter. The completed board will be given to a person present. Individuals interested in starting a beehive are particularly encouraged to attend. Experienced beekeepers are available as mentors to anyone thinking about taking up the activity.

Rotary club

The Rotary Club of Brown County recently donated $1,000 to ShelterBox, a Rotary International partner. ShelterBox manufactures and stocks large plastic boxes with emergency shelter and other sustenance equipment such as solar lights, water filters, cooking utensils and tools, and utilizes volunteers to deploy the boxes to families experiencing homelessness due to natural disasters or humanitarian crises.

The organization was started 20 years ago by a Rotary club in Cornwall, England. Since its inception, the organization has sheltered more than 1.6 million people in more than 100 countries around the world. For more information about ShelterBox, visit shelterboxusa.org.

The local club matched a $500 grant from Rotary District 6580, which encompasses 32 clubs in southern Indiana. This donation designates Rotary Club of Brown County as a bronze-level Hero Club.
