SPORTS BRIEFS: Kayak tours happening; half-marathon set

Football homecoming game is next Friday

Brown County High School will celebrate fall homecoming on Friday night, Oct. 16.

A homecoming royalty court will be crowned this year, but other homecoming traditions like a dance, parade or block party are not happening this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, Superintendent Laura Hammack said during Oct. 1 Brown County School Board of Trustees meeting.

“Clearly, those are disappointments, but trying to make that week special just the same,” she said.

The high school student council is organizing the school’s spirit week from Oct. 12 to 16. High school students also will participate in a virtual cornhole tournament during their Student Resource Time as part of spirit week — “still getting to be goofy kids, but not the same, and we recognize that and are disappointed by that, but we really feel like this is a safe way to still make that week special,” Hammack said.

The football game will start at 7 p.m. with homecoming royalty being crowned during halftime.

The school is still under attendance restrictions for large events like football games, Athletic Director Mark Bruner said. Game tickets can be purchased at gofan.co.

Also on Friday, the school district launched a new cellphone app where fans can purchase event tickets and see sports team schedules. It can be downloaded from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.schoolcourier.BrownCountyInAthletics.
