Healing Hearts to host several classes

Healing Hearts & Memory Making, 173 S. Van Buren St., will host several classes in the coming week.

A homemade paper making class will happen on Nov. 11 at 5:15 p.m. Participants have the choice of making seed, wildflower, decorated or plain paper. Small paper pieces, cotton fiber and water will be placed in a blender then it is drained, molded and dried into paper sheets. Paper can be mailed or picked up at the shop.

Admission is $10 for parents and $3 for children.

A superhero crafts and activities class for children ages 5 to 10 is planned for Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. Crafts will include masks, picture frames, puzzles, banners, scratch designs and a superhero book. Attendees will receive a superhero drawstring bag.

Admission is $20.

A round fan book making class will happen on Nov. 16 at 11:30 a.m. Attendees will make a circular book that holds wallet sized photos. The shop can print photos for an extra $5 fee. There is an option to purchase additional decorations.

Admission is $10.

Open craft time and game night is planned for Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. Attendees can bring in their own crafts and games, or use those provided by the shop.

Admission is $5.

Medicare annual enrollment period to begin

The annual enrollment period for Medicare advantage and prescription drug plans will run through Dec. 7.

Medicare beneficiaries are encouraged to review their plans in order to reassess their coverage and consider new options for 2022 if they desire.

Chamber of Commerce holiday toy drive

The Brown County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Toy Drive through Dec. 4 and they need more toys.

Donated toys will go to underprivileged families in the community. Toys and gifts for boys and girls are needed for infants to teenagers. Gifts can include toys, books, crafts and anything else appropriate for the occasion.

Official vendors for the Drive are the Toy Chest, Weed Patch Music Company, the Clay Purl and Fallen Leaf Books. Fallen Leaf Books is offering 15 percent off all books purchased for the Toy Drive. Donations from other vendors can be dropped off at the Visitors Center, 211 S. Van Buren St. Toys will be donated to the Salvation Army and the St. Vincent de Paul charities.

The Brown County Music Center is also accepting toy donations in place of purchasing a ticket for the following shows:

  • Old Crow Medicine Show
  • Carrot Top
  • Warrant
  • Lindsey Stirling
  • Mystery Science Theatre 3000

The Toy Drive will end with a celebratory Light Parade on Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. The route will loop from Washington to Jefferson to Mound to Van Buren streets.

Chocolate Walk returns this month

Sample over 35 yummy chocolate treats while strolling through the Village of Nashville this weekend.

The Brown County Humane Society’s 14th annual Chocolate Walk will take place Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Walkers will begin at the Salvation Army, the headquarters for the walk, and will start their chocolate centered journey. From there they can begin visiting each of the 39 stops.

Many of the stops are pet friendly.

The Chocolate Walk is a major fundraiser for the humane society, which has been sheltering homeless animals for 55 years. All proceeds raised go towards helping homeless pets in the county.

Goshen Community Church to host holiday events

Goshen Community Church, 2798 Gatesville Road, will host their annual bean dinner, bake sale, holiday bazaar, and quilt raffle will happen on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year’s raffle quilt is a queen size “Nine Patch” in autumn colors with a neutral background. Tickets are $1 each or six tickets for $5. The drawing for the quilt will be at 3 p.m. The winner does not need to be present at the time of the drawing. Tickets are available at the church, or by calling Ruth Fox at 812-988-7892.

The bean dinner includes a bowl of soup, two cornbread muffins, a side of slaw, dessert, and a drink for a $5 donation.

Bake sale items include pies, cookies, persimmon pudding, and much more.

Items available at the bazaar include baby and kitchen items, hats and scarves, hand crafted greeting cards, and more.

Goat milk soap making workshop announced

Learn how to make goat milk soap in this workshop at Goat Conspiracy on Nov. 14 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Tour the farm, meet the goats, and end with a glass of wine.

Participants will get to take home five bars of soap from the batch. Admission is $80. For reservations and information, email [email protected].

Free legal aid phone clinic set for this week

Legal Aid will conduct a free legal service phone clinic on Tuesday, Nov. 16 for low-income residents of eight Indiana counties, including Brown County.

The clinic will take place from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Callers can expect a 10-minute phone consultation where legal professionals will answer general questions and offer legal information.

Individuals seeking consultation must register by calling Legal Aid at 812-378-0358 on Nov. 16 between noon and 2 p.m. A volunteer attorney will return a call to registered individuals between 3 and 5:30 p.m.

The next Legal Aid phone clinic will be Tuesday, Dec. 7 with the same registration requirements and time frame.

Community night of worship scheduled

New Life Community Church, 1450 State Road 135 North, will host a night of worship on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. A fellowship meal will be served at 5:30 p.m.

Local bluebird club selling nesting boxes

The Brown County Bluebird Club’s annual bluebird nest box sale is underway. Boxes are all cedar and fully assembled. One box is $15 and two boxes are $25. If interested, call Dan Sparks at 812-200-5700.
