Club News for week of Nov. 1

Woodworkers club

The Brown County Woodworkers Club will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane.

Robb Besosa will lead the program.

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet on at 7:45 a.m. at The Seasons Lodge in the Fireplace Lounge, 560 State Road 46 East, on Thursday, Nov. 3.

The guest speaker will be Cindy York, president of Bloomington Worldwide Friendship (BWF). York will discuss BWF’s program of matching community residents with foreign students attending Indiana University in order to foster mutual fellowship and understanding across borders and cultures.

BWF started as a group to assist international students at IU in 1953. BWF matches international students with community members and families every semester. The idea is to introduce the international visitor to the Midwest version of the US culture. Since its inception, Bloomington Worldwide Friendship has been a major source of hospitality and friendship to thousands of visiting students and scholars. Many of the friendships extend for many years beyond those that students spend at IU and can expand to include parents and spouses.

Cindy studied at Texas Tech and earned a Bachelor of Science from Western Kentucky University. She lives in Bloomington and has been a Retail Manager for Cracker Barrel for thirty-two years.

Members of the community, especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to the community, are invited to attend via Zoom using a link obtained by visiting www.RotaryClubofBrownCounty.org and clicking on the “Contact us” URL.
