Course available for new homebuyers

First-time home-buyers have many questions about how the home buying process works. Even if you feel fully prepared, it is hard to foresee what the process is like until it starts.

Sometimes panic sets in as you start calculating the amount of money it’ll take to buy a home. Because people often benefit from a first-time home buyer class, Brown County Community Foundation (BCCF), Brown County Habitat for Humanity (BCHH) and the local Fifth Third Bank have partnered to offer a course in Nashville.

On Thursday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m., Kathryn Callahan from Fifth Third will lead participants through how to start their home buying journey.

This informational seminar will be hosted in the BCCF Community Room at 209 N. Van Buren St. in Nashville.

Callahan said she will help those in attendance “learn what to do to get your finances in line and determine how much you can afford.”

Some lenders require that first-time buyers take a class and this collaboration will help people find the information they need in a community setting.

“By offering this class at BCCF, we hope to connect people with a free resource that could help them on their way to home ownership,” said Maddison Miller, BCCF CEO.

Participants in the first-time home buyer class can expect to learn:

  • Whether you’re ready for homeownership
  • Budgeting and money management
  • Assessing your creditworthiness
  • Determining the type of home you can afford
  • Programs that can help buy your first home
  • Comparing different types of mortgages and lenders

This class is beneficial for anyone new to home buying, but it can also help if you’re a previous homeowner who had financial struggles. To register call 812-200-4002 or email [email protected]
