Motorcyclist hits embankment and spins, lands in ditch

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP — On Sept. 21, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Zaccary Sheppard responded to a motor vehicle crash on Becks Grove Road.

According to the report, Luiz Coca, 30, of Waynesville, Missouri, was driving an orange 2006 Harley-Davidson Sportster 883R when he hit a patch of loose gravel, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle as he approached a sharp turn. When Coca slid through the turn, he struck an embankment and the bike spun before resting in a ditch.

Coca was not ejected or trapped under the vehicle. He sustained a minor abrasion on his chest below his neck and was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital. Coca was wearing a helmet that also sustained minor damage.

Bloomington man charged with perjury

NASHVILLE — A 59-year-old Bloomington man has been charged with Level 6 felony perjury.

Terill Trivett was arrested on Sept. 21 by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and remanded to the Brown County Jail, according to a report. During the process of answering an Intake Information Form and Release Determination, Trivett was asked to answer questions including if he is currently on probation or parole and if he currently has a criminal charge pending against him in Brown County or any other county or state.

The three questions require a “yes” or “no” response, but the question regarding pending criminal charges and location requires the arrestee to answer which county their charges are in. Those questions are used to determine what the bond amount will be based on the Brown County Circuit Court bond schedule.

Trivett allegedly stated that he did not have any criminal charges pending against him, and he was released on his own recognizance rather than being required to post a bail bond. Afterward, it was learned that he had two outstanding criminal cases pending in Monroe County. If he had listed the criminal charges pending against him, his bond would have been set at $20,000.

While filling out the intake form, Trivett signed the perjury statement saying that the defendant affirms under the penalty of perjury that the statements made in the form are accurate.
