Halloween writing contest deadline lurking

The Brown County Democrat is bringing back its Halloween writing contest for the second year. Participants are asked to write a Halloween-themed story and send it to us. The story must be 750 words or less, with a Brown County connection. It must also be your own work.

Send the story in the body of an email to [email protected] before Friday, Oct. 18 to be included in the contest. No attachments please!

Entries will be judged and winners will be contacted. Winning authors will be required to send us a photo and short bio as well as permission to publish the story.

Ferrer Studio Open House

The Ferrer Studio, 4108 Yellowwood Road, Nashville, will have an open house from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11-Monday, Oct. 14.

New exhibits at Brown County Art Guild

The Brown County Art Guild is celebrating a milestone birthday this year: Seventy years of continuous operation in the same location. This momentous occasion will be honored with exceptional artistic talent showcased throughout the year.

Through Nov. 8, the Guild Artist Exhibition and Sale offers a fresh new collection of fine art for display and sale. Stop in to tour the galleries and immerse yourself in the striking talent of our award-winning member artists.

Also through Nov. 8, the Jubilee Collection II: Special Exhibition & Sale features a talented grouping of guild artists. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to view and acquire exceptional works of art.

The guild is a not-for-profit organization located in the heart of downtown Nashville at 48 S. Van Buren St. On display throughout its galleries is a prized collection of historic paintings as well as current works for sale from regional award-winning member artists. Also offered throughout the year are artist demonstrations, workshops, and special exhibits.

Hours through December are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon-4 p.m. Sunday, or by appointment.
