Friendly Forest at Jackson Township
Friendly Forest offers a safe and free trick-or-treat experience for children and adults 7-9 p.m. this Friday and Saturday at the Jackson Township Fire Department, 4831 Helmsburg Road. The department bills the event as “Cute enough for toddlers, friendly enough for all ages.”
Costumes are encouraged, and music, hot dogs, popcorn and hot chocolate will be provided along with a lighted trail. For more information, visit the Facebook page for Jackson Township Fire Department #5.
Governor debate watch event set
The League of Women Voters of Brown County will host an Indiana gubernatorial debate watch event at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane, Nashville.
Guests are invited to watch the televised gubernatorial debate on the Library’s big screen and enjoy refreshments provided by the League of Women Voters of Brown County. The debate is sponsored by the Indiana Debate Commission and will feature candidates Mike Braun (R), Jennifer McCormick (D), and Donald Rainwater (L). The debate will be broadcast on public television and also may be viewed on the commission’s website, indianadebatecommission.com.
Annual Studio Tour through Oct. 31
The 26th annual Brown County Studio Tour runs through Oct. 31. This is a self-guided tour of working artists’ studios throughout Brown County. Enjoy Brown County’s scenic backroads as you travel to different locations where you will have the unique opportunity to meet the artists, tour their studios and purchase directly from them.
All studios are open Wednesday through Saturday, with some also open on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, including a list of featured artists and studios and a map that can be downloaded or printed, visit bcstudiotour.com.
Brown County Democrat hosting first Nashville ghost walk
Reporter Dakota Bruton will lead the first-ever Brown County Haunted History Tour through downtown Nashville on Friday at 7 p.m., sharing spooky stories and historical tales of Brown County.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Democrat office, 153 E. Main St. Tickets are $13 or $20 for two. Space is limited and tickets are selling fast, so get yours before it’s too late … if you dare!
Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. The walk will last around an hour, rain or shine.
Hickory Ridge Community Center plans events
October sees cooler temperatures, a splash of color and the beginning of the holiday season. Hickory Ridge had a great year, and things will slow down a bit for the center heading into winter. Here is what’s on the calendar for the Community Center:
Oct. 24, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: A senior day with a potluck, working some puzzles, and a few hands of cards.
Oct. 28, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.: Hamblen Township Civic League board meeting. The public is welcome.
Oct. 31, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: A senior day with a potluck, and a few hands of cards.

Book Bike deliveries
Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. Weekly in-town stops for library book delivery and returns. Meet the Book Bike at one of our outdoor locations in the Salt Creek Plaza area to pick up items placed on hold, return your library books, pick up program schedules or get a library card.
How it works:
Place items on hold through your account on the library website by noon Monday. Select “Book Bike” as the pickup location, then meet the Book Bike on Tuesdays at one of the outdoor stops:
- 11 to 11:20 a.m. at Brown County YMCA
- 11:20 to 11:35 a.m. at Willow Manor Apartments

The Brown County History Center and Pioneer Village
The Pioneer Village is open for the summer/fall season. The village will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Tours can be arranged upon request. Raptor Rendezvous Fundraiser
The Indiana Raptor Center announces its annual fundraiser, Raptor Rendezvous, on Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Abe Martin Lodge in Brown County State Park from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Festivities will include a bird presentation, sandwich buffet and silent auction. Tickets are $35 and include entrance to the park. Tickets may be purchased by mailing a check to PO Box 1153, Nashville, IN 47448, calling the Center at 812-988-8990 with a credit card, or using the PayPal donation buttons on the center’s website, indianaraptorcenter.org. Abe Martin Bazaar Nov. 9
Looking for something to do? Come to the Abe Martin Bazaar at the Brown County History Center on East Gould Street (one block north of the stop light) on Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A diverse gathering of vendors will be selling a variety of items from Christmas decorations to jewelry to wood turned bowls to locally made soap, and a variety on craft items just right for Christmas gifts.
Brown County Rising: A film series about community wellness
Brown County Rising film series will continue at 2 p.m. on Nov. 24 with the viewing of “Wrestling Ghosts” at Brown County Playhouse.
