‘Hoosier Salon Centennial’ at art gallery

“The Hoosier Salon Centennial,” celebrating 100 years of art history in Indiana, is featured at the Brown County Art Gallery through Nov. 10. The Hoosier Salon debuted in 1924 after a group of women from Indiana who were living in Chicago decided to create a life-changing venue, according to the Brown County Art Gallery Foundation, and this exhibit showcases 80 paintings, some of which have never been seen before in a public setting.

Some of the painting have never been publicly exhibited, gallery manager Jeanne Bennett said. “This has been a popular exhibit, people really love it,” she said. The exhibit is free to enter and nothing is for sale.

The gallery is located at 1 Artist Drive in Nashville and is open every day — Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, visit browncountyartgallery.org.

Living Art Colony event Nov. 29

The Nashville Arts and Entertainment Commission, Pioneer Women and Brown County History Center will present its final Living Art Colony of this year from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 29, at the Pioneer Village and History Center, 90 E. Gould St.

Friday’s event will include textile crafts, blacksmithing, an apothecarist, storytellers, en plein air artists and traditional musicians. The event will lead into the Village Art Walk in Nashville, organizers said. It’s the third monthly event of its kind, following events in August and September, and the final event of the four-month series will take place

The last date in November is scheduled to focus on traditional holiday themes, organizers said. This is the first year for the series of events, which planners hope will become an annual tradition.

“Some people dress up as costumed characters from old Nashville, others dress in period costume from the pioneer era,” Nashville Arts and Entertainment Commission President Melanie Voland told The Democrat.

People interested in volunteering can show up in costume or contact the Nashville Arts and Entertainment Commission by contacting Town Hall and leaving a message for the commission at (812) 988-5526.
